The Fates
Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos, the Fates are notorious in mythology and beyond. They hold our lives in the palm of their hands.
Atropos
Starting at the end, Atropos is the fate that cuts our threads and ends our lives. This illustration is based off the Bas Relief of Atropos Cutting the Thread of Life.
Belladonna, a deadly plant also known as “Atropa Belladonna” as a reference to this fate and her ability to end life.
Lachesis
Our next fate, Lachesis, is responsible for measuring the thread of life for each person. I represented her with arborvitae as it can mean “yours until death” which seemed fitting.
Clotho
The first Fate, Clotho. She is in charge of spinning the thread that creates our lives and brings us into existence. The flowers adorning her illustration are rain lilies, which represent new beginnings and rebirth.
